Welcome to our third edition of the Hot Button.

Hi there- I’m Tiffany DePass, Chief of Staff here at POM. Thank you for hanging in here with us for this latest edition. Our mission at POM is working to empower a better world for all through personal safety, community and education. We are thankful to have you as a part of our POM Community.

So, what’s on my mind this month? Self-care. There’s no perfect formula to self-care. There isn’t only one right way to do it. Self-care is a practice. A daily practice. A daily learning of listening to the needs of our bodies and minds, and feeding those things. When I allow myself to get to the point of feeling stressed and overwhelmed, it’s because I have done too much and not enough. Too much thinking. Too much talking. Not enough breathing. Taking a moment to process, feel and breathe is key to self-care.

I hope you take time to prioritize your well-being. May you find self-care routines that are right for you.

-Tiffany

Featured Organization: Rachael’s First Week

Rachael’s First Week is an organization dedicated to protecting the lives of high school seniors and college freshmen as they transition into young adult women and men. These can be tumultuous years when peers often look to each other for guidance as they encounter novel and potentially dangerous situations, rather than engaging experienced mentors to provide solutions. The mission of Rachael’s First Week is to develop the decision-making skills of teens as they enter this time of monumental change in their lives. Rachael’s First Week resources and educational programs, including the RFW Live Program and SafeTEA Podcast, were developed through the vision of Angi Fiege, MD, an Indiana University Health Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Trauma, ICU, physician, following the death of her daughter, Rachael Fiege, an incoming freshman at Indiana University.

That wraps us up for this week. Thank you for reading, please share with us any feedback or suggestions. -pom team
