What is HR 1195?
The Workplace Violence Prevention in Healthcare and Social Services Worker Act (HR 1195) is legislation aimed at protecting healthcare and social service workers from workplace violence. The bill, if passed, would direct OSHA to establish a standard requiring employers in healthcare and social services to develop and implement workplace violence prevention plans and submit annual workplace violence reports.
In 2019, the bill was introduced as HR 1309 by Representative Joe Courtney (D) and included the American Nurses Association as one of its many supporters. After passing the House, the bill did not pass the Senate. Reintroduced in February 2021, the bill passed the House in April.
If passed, healthcare organizations would have under one year to develop and implement a comprehensive workplace violence plan that abides
